If you find yourself at the crossroads of insomnia and insanity, this is the place to channel those demons that keep you sleepless. Vivid pictures, poetry, ruminations, and confessions from the nether hours between dusk and dawn. Originally formed to celebrate the city at night, there's a strong urban theme.
Dedicated to promoting global sustainability, this community offers a forum for discussing current environmental news, research, and issues with tips on how to make positive, pro-active changes to reduce carbon impact. You'll also find information on how to get involved in eco-activism and learn about events near you (i.e., act local; think global). Offering a wealth of data on earth-friendly products and practices, you'll be inspired to don an organic bamboo cape and save the planet.
Self-described as "a little community with a lot of rage," you can soak up impassioned vibes and read blistering exposes detailing sexist attitudes in the news, pop culture, and science! A must-join community if you are, or love, a feminist. (NB: the topic of whether a "man" can be a feminist is outside the scope of this spotlight, but will probably wind up on the Writer's Block.)
In 2009 I didn't have as much stitching time as I used to. My baby daughter was born in January and since them my time is no longer my own. Nonetheless, looking back at the year, I got a lot more done in 2009 than I thought I had. What really sticks out from my review of 2009 is just how many simple designs I created in 2009. I hope I will continue to be inspired to create more into the future.
My plans for 2010 are not very ambitions. I will soon be the mum to a toddler and I expect I will be busy running after her. Plus, there are those grubby, sticky little fingers that want to touch everything. So we'll see how much time I actually get...
Enough talking. Onto the projects!
Here is what I finished in 2009:

Here is what I finished in 2009:
- I finished my daughters birth sampler (the majority of the stitching was done before she was born. all I had to do was had her name, birth date, weight and length... so it wasn't all that much stitching. This counted as my yearly The Drawn Thread Sampler, I've been doing 1 a year for the past 5 years.
- A name band for little monkey's kindergarten box (my own design).
- While on a 5000km road trip to visit family I stitched 2 baby bibs (my own designs): A girly train and little_monkey's name surrounded by flowers (may need to add a flower in the lower center area)
- 2 biscornu's for a cross-stitch class held by
lv2stitchnphoto (also my own designs) - A baby bib for a friend, also my own design. No pic here since it hasn't been sent yet!

Here are my current WIPs:
- Blackwork SAL: This is a blackwork sampler that was released in 7 parts in the magazine The Gift of Stitching. I started it in 2009 and am now up to part 6. It gets maybe 10 to 20minutes action each night. I was determined to finished this one in 2009... alas it was not to be. I've added a picture showing the full sampler and another showing the progress in the past couple of months.
- Game board sampler: this is my 2010 yearly The Drawn Thread sampler... I started it on January 1st. I am very happy with the colours. Its the simplest of The Drawn Thread samplers I have worked on. Which is a good thing, since it also looks like its the largest so far, and I do not have much time!
- 4 Agreements Bookmark: This is my traveling project. Although we have actually traveled quite a bit, I've worked on a few other small projects instead so it has seen very little progress. I did put a few stitches in it while I was in labour, way back in January of 2009. Shouldn't be hard to finish.
- Summer in My Garden: No work done on this one in 2009. I am still very happy with how the face turned out, even after a year. I did start working on the tree leaves. Not much progress though... I am starting to feel inspired to restart on this one again. But it will have to wait until I am done with the Blackwork Sampler SAL.
- MTM: No work done on this one in 2009. Last time I mentioned the MTM I had rescued it by bleaching the stains off and then tea staining it to hide the bleached spots. I am holding on to it to see how the fabric survives the treatment. Last time I checked it looked OK. I may still decide to frame the part thats done and not take any chances. Anyway, I'll decide what to do with it once Summer in My Garden is done. So I have plenty of time before I need to make a decision.

I went for a nice walk this afternoon with DH, little_monkey and Bob. It was cold, with some snow on the ground and blue sky.
Bob is now a master frisbee catcher. He totally rocks. I'll have to make a video of it.
Afterwards I went to the supermarket. Planning to make goulash. People there were in a great mood. The checkout lady even weighed some veggies I had forgotten to weigh myself (usually they just yell at you to run and go do it yourself). They were giving away the unsold Christmas decorations. I got a nice smiling elk. Then at the bakery they were also all smiles.
Something is in the air...

I am at home for another 9 days. Mostly I plan to relax and spend time with little_monkey. However, there's no harm in getting a few things done. Specially since I don't know when I will get such a nice long break at home next. I expect this year will be quite busy in terms of work and I also need to study for an exam in 3 months time.
When I get bored of doing nothing, not much chance of that, here are some things I can do:

In 2009 I logged 415.8 KM in total (258.3 miles). Thats for the walks/runs that I bothered to log. There were probably a few that I didnt track. This does not include the walking from my normal daily life... to and from car, around the house, etc.
I restarted the Éowyn Challenge on the 20.Sep.2009, since then I have logged 144.9 KM (90 miles).
I am disappointed to say that I only run 12.1 KM in 2009. Having trouble with re-starting my runs because of my weakened core muscles. Need to do something about that.
In any case, the target for 2010 now seems more achievable. I know how little I did in 2009, doubling it to meet the 500 mile target should be relatively easy.
When little_monkey wakes up from her nap we shall head out and get started on this years miles! Taking it easy, because I did slip on some ice just before Christmas and one of my knees is still recovering from the experience.

I subscribe to the Irish and Celtic music podcast. I was just listening to Episode #75, the Christmas special for 2009 when I came across a fine performance of Auld Lang Syne done by Marc Gunn.
Coincidently, Marc is also the creator of the podcast. Since this podcast has provided me with many fine hours of music, I feel its only fair to share the link with you... No, I am not being paid for this, nor do I know Marc. The podcast website: Celtic and Irish Music Podcast
And here is some of Marc's music, including Auld Lang Syne:

ETA: The fireworks at midnight woke up little_monkey. We got her out of bed and showed her what was making all the noise. She took a few seconds to realise there were bright sparkly things to look at... once she did... well she was mesmerized... Big eyes and open mouth...
Once things calmed down little_monkey and I danced to Auld Lang Syne. And now I am about to try to get her to sleep again...
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
Not that little_monkey has any old times to look back too.. or maybe she does...
Happy New Year!
